Radically Generous

The sermon at my church today was really amazing so I thought I might share it with y'all! You might be surprised when I say it was great because it was a church.... talking about giving. They actually purposefully didn't take offering today. This sermon was about a different type of giving. They talked about giving time and talents.

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”‭‭- Matthew‬ ‭6:21‬ ‭

Where are you putting your money and talents? Most importantly, where is your heart? Is it in a place of generosity and humility? These are great questions to ask yourself right now and answer honestly.

Your answer might include how you're doing a sports camp the whole summer or traveling around the world. Did it include the sacrifices you're making for other people? Is that one of your main goals? Let me tell you a little bit about giving and generosity.

Giving was not created for God's own personal pleasure but for our sake. Giving helps us be less selfish and even find God-given joy. Giving is a sacrifice that God invented to express love and follow His will.

Technically, the world is God's. This means that everything belongs to Him. That car you have was given to you out of God's love and goodness. The meal you just ate was given to you by God. To have a generous heart, you must continually be thankful. That's a hard place to be in but it's so important. Literally everything you have now is God's. What does it matter if you give a person your shirt or even your time? It is all God's to begin with. Take a moment right now to give thanks for some things in your life.

You are one step closer to consistently having a heart that's in the right place, good job! Now ask yourself,  "How can I bless other people with all of these things I have that I am grateful for?" Maybe you have a talent for cooking. In your free time instead of watching the Great British Bake Off, bake something for your friend in the hospital.

This doesn't mean you spend all of your time giving everything away. Sometimes it's good to sleep and sit down. If you spend all of your time giving, how will you ever be able to receive?

Do something today out of love and goodness. Give away your time or talents or maybe even money. You never know how God's going to use your generous heart :)

Bye for now!!!
