Book Review + Special Interview with K.A. Emmons!

I am super excited to be a part of the blog tour for Worlds Beneath! Since that is the second book of this series and I had no idea what the series was about. I decided to do a review on the first book because of that (it's going to be short cause I want you to be able to get to this interview)!

Honestly, I have never read a single book like this one. The concept is completely original and you're immediately drawn in and enthralled by the story. I started reading it and I just could not put it down! You can tell that every little detail was thoroughly thought through before publishing her book and this made all the difference. Some books are good ideas but the executions taints the whole story; this was the exact opposite. Its execution made it

I am absolutely thrilled to be a part of this blog tour to celebrate such a talented author! Without further ado, here's an interview with K.A. Emmons, herself, all about writing and publishing her books!

Where did you get the idea for this book series?

The idea for book 1, The Blood Race literally just “dropped” into my head. The idea came out of nowhere and I wholly consider it to be a gift from God, I definitely don’t take credit for it. I had literally no clue what Worlds Beneath would be about until I was almost to the end of the writing process of The Blood Race, and then book 2 just dropped into my head and I knew what it was going to be about. It was so, so, so much fun writing that book. Same thing happened with book 3.

If you could tell your younger self one tip about writing, what would it be?

Chill. And I know that’s a bit of a funny piece of advice (it really is), but if I could rewind back a few years, I would tell myself to chill the heck out. To relax and enjoy the journey and not worry about all the things that seemed so big and daunting in the moment, but now, looking back, seem dwarfed. I wish I had simply enjoyed the journey more. This is something I’m growing in and learning to do more each and every day.

What is your writing kryptonite and how are you overcoming it?

Great question. I would go so far as to say this may be everyone’s writing Kryptonite: distractions. Writing a good story is hard when you’re distracted - in fact, it’s scientifically proven that you can’t completely focus on two things at once. So if you want to give your writing your all, respect your art, stay disciplined, and cut out distractions. Lock your phone in a drawer in you have to. Discipline is the key to overcoming most obstacles.

How long did it take to make the final draft of The Blood Race?

I can’t really remember. I think we had the final draft ready for print around 1 year later (perhaps less), but I was actually working on a separate project in between, so that slowed it down a bit. It ended up working out for the best though, I think I was supposed to release it when I did, and I’m happy about that.

What was the hardest scene to write for this book?

There wasn’t so much a specific scene, Worlds Beneath was actually loads of fun to write. It was a bit difficult starting out though, because that was right around when my husband (then fiance) deployed. So there was a lot on my mind and it made it tricky to focus at times. But once I got into the story it was extremely therapeutic to write during that time.

When was the first moment you realized you were going to be an author?

Five minutes ago.

Just kidding. But I don’t really know if I ever had a moment of realization, as much as I just always wrote because I had to; because it was my language - how I understood myself and the world around me. I can’t imagine a life without writing.

What was the most challenging part when you published this book?

All the learning curves and the technical aspects (which are numerous.) There’s a lot of tech-related things that accompany publishing a book and I wasn’t a big fan of those. Haha.
