Introduction
Before I reveal 2020's first book of the month to you, I first want to talk about the author, Cara Alwill Leyba. Man, do I look up to her. She is a powerful, vulnerable, and intelligent female entrepreneur all dressed in glamorous style with a glass of champagne in one hand and a Chanel purse in the other. I respect all of her hard work and positive energy more than I could ever put to words. She is living proof that dreams can come true and that hard work and effort do pay off. She is far from perfect, all of us are, but I am confident that she is the ultimate self-made woman. Now, she passionately writes, podcasts, and life-coaches to lead other women towards success based on the take no sh*t philosophy and the belief that authenticity and confidence in your own capabilities is enough to follow your passions and change the world.
THE MYSTERY BOOK
Now, that I've introduced the author, I'm sure you're ready to know what this amazing book is called. It is the Girl Code: Unlocking the Secrets to Success, Sanity, and Happiness for the Female Entrepreneur. However, this is something any woman who wants to advocate and fight for themselves and their passions (life, career, family, hobbies, etc.) should read. There is still so much to learn even if you are not an entrepreneur. In the Girl Code, you will learn the honest truth from other successful female entrepreneurs in all walks of life. This book will especially be beneficial to influencers, writers, bloggers, entrepreneurs, artists, inventors, and any other person who is constantly having to sell themselves or their products to other people.
After reading this book, I feel like I am best friends with Cara so I'm not going to use her last name. We've been through a lot together. As I'm sure all of us know, fighting for yourself is very difficult. There's always someone to be on the lookout for or something to protect yourself against. It can be exhausting and when you're fighting for your product, passion, or entrepreneurial project on top of that, it can make you feel like you're losing it. Cara taught me that it's okay to take your time. The most important part for achieving this "success, sanity, and happiness" is being confident in and truly loving/accepting yourself for who you are. You know? That thing everyone talks about but no one quite knows how to perfect. In the Girl Code, Cara will teach you everything she knows to work for her and share with you what other successful women know that works for them. She can't specifically tell you how to love yourself because we are all so unique with different needs, wants, and backgrounds. She can tell you what does work for a wide variety of people through her experiences, quotes, examples, and interviews. Many other self-help/professional/inspirational books like this try to explain the unexplainable. Cara gives you the facts of the matter and some ideas for you to try to implement in your life and career. But it is up to you to do the hard work! That is what makes this book so different. Not only is it inspirational and uplifting, it's honest up front.
The Official Rating
For all of these reasons, I rate the book an arbitrary 13/12! Expect the numbers used to rate and review future books of the month to be changing every time for emphasis.
Oh, and don't forget to take notes while you're reading. You won't regret it!
