Book of the Month!

Updated: Dec 7, 2019

It's been way too long since I've done a Book of the Month! So why not now?I have already written a post inspired by one of the best books of all time (no one can disagree with this fact), The Art of Non-Conformity. The Happiness of Pursuit: Finding the Quest that Will Bring Purpose to Your Life is written by the same author, Chris Guillebeau. I will say I am still currently reading it but I couldn't wait! For simplicity's sake, I will be referring to this book as The Happiness of Pursuit. As I'm sure you know by now, I am one of those people who has crazy big dreams. If you are, too, then this book is for you. It is all about taking dreams and turning them into achievable quests. Guillebeau defines a quest as "a long-term pursuit with a clear goal or destination," (https://www.themeaningmovement.com/interview-with-chris-guillebeau/). In The Happiness of Pursuit, Guillebeau goes on to explain that quests are more than the journey one takes to pay off all of their debt or run a marathon. These are challenges that most people decide to undertake at some point in their life. These are good things but a quest looks like running a marathon nearly every week for a year. This is not recommended by medical professionals, by the way, but someone did it. As one continues reading, we learn that all quests have a set time frame, a purpose, and a sacrifice. The Happiness of Pursuit is unlike other books in that it gives examples of successful quests and lessons people have learned from them. Some may not make sense to you or seem completely unbelievable. Others may inspire you to find a quest of your own. All examples will teach you an important lesson about pursuing quests and living a purposeful and happy life. I've already had realizations about a life-long quest of my own. Before reading this book, I had decided to visit every country in the world. Now, I want to take it one step further by performing in every country in the world while recording my experiences. I don't care if I perform in front of one person at an open mic night or a couple of people on the street. I just want to venture far out of my comfort zone for my best life and encourage others to live theirs as well. Let me show you how I know this is a quest. I have a clear purpose to travel, perform, and record my experiences in every country in the world. I will need to sacrifice large amounts of money to be able to perform and travel in every country. I also may sacrifice certain relationships with people who think this is unsafe, unwise, or plain insane. Lastly, my timeframe is for this quest to be accomplished throughout the duration of my life. I've already performed in America, Ireland, and Northern Ireland. So three down, one hundred and ninety-two to go! I've already learned so much about myself and my dreams from this book. I can't wait to learn more! This book earns a 10/10 so far <3. I highly recommend reading it.
