If you've been following my blog, you've probably heard of @its.daniellenicole on Instagram. Just in case you haven't, I'll put all of her blogging information at the end of this interview and I'm going to introduce her now.
Who She Is: Writer, Poet, Illustrator, Blogger, Musician, and now, she is an author! Beginning today, a collection of 60 poems titled, Her Journal Pages, written by Danielle Nicole, herself, can be bought on Amazon! Everyone please give her a round of applause wherever you are (yes, even if you're in public). Without further ado, here are the questions you have been dying to ask her.
1. What was your biggest inspiration for creating this book?
My biggest inspiration for creating this book was my desire for my poems to reach more people than just the Instagram community. There’s also just something special about reading something on paper, rather than on a screen.
2. What did you find most difficult in publishing your book? Do you have any advice for aspiring authors?
I think what was most difficult in publishing my book was figuring out how to get the format right, and learning how to use the self-publishing program I used. My advice for aspiring authors would be to take your time! Don’t rush the process of writing your book, or getting the format ready. Your book will be ready to publish, when it’s ready to publish.
3. Did you struggle with writer's block? If so, how did you deal with it? What helped? What made writing more difficult? Throughout the process of writing my book I had writer’s block so many times, or when I did write, everything sounded super repetitive. I found what helped me was just taking a few days, sometimes even a few weeks off from writing. Sometimes you just need a break. Also, a lot of the topics of the poems from this book were given to me by other people, and their stories, or situations. This made things a lot easier because it meant I didn’t always have to come up with the topic myself. 4. In your opinion, what is the best book ever written? Did you incorporate it's writing style into your own book? I’m not sure what I would say is the best book ever written… but I know that one of my absolute favourites is “Storyteller” by Morgan Harper Nichols. The style of her book is definitely something I incorporated into mine. I love the format she used, and even the font! So anyone who has read Morgan’s book will for sure see some similarities to her’s in mine. 5. Which poem is your favourite from this collection? Such a hard question haha! I think my favourite poem from this collection would be the one titled “Flowers & Vines”. I was in a super creative mind space at the time, the words just flowed, and came very naturally! Here’s a little excerpt from it: “she noticed that after a long few months of piling up thoughts around herself, the forest becomes thicker. in between anxiety, and doubt the branches begin to intertwine with each other,” 6. Do you plan on writing more books in the future? Yes! I really hope to. Maybe a collection of poems Vol.2. Something I’d also be interested into writing would be a 30 day devotional. So guess we will see! :)
