Start off by reading Ruth 3! To me, this chapter is super odd. Naomi tells Ruth to go to a party that Boaz holds. Then after he falls asleep and has had a lot to eat, go lie down at the foot of his bed to signal you can marry him. What?!?! That's crazy! Guess what's even crazier. Boaz is impressed by her and agrees to marry Ruth!
I'm sure Ruth had many doubts about this plan. She had only met Boaz probably days before. They hardly knew each other. If he didn't like that she was at the foot of his bed, then he probably could have ordered her to leave and tell her to not come back, even for wheat. Even though Ruth could've argued with Naomi or not gone altogether, she did exactly what Naomi said.
Sometimes, God tells us crazy things. We don't want to listen to Him because it's weird or maybe embarrassing. I know this definitely applied to Ruth yet she still did what she was told.
Think about it like this. When you don't do what God wants you to do, does the situation get better or worse? I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say worse. But we end up getting so entangled in fear that we can't do anything. Fear is so sticky and gooey that it's hard to get off of yourself completeley. Then, we end up stuck in it and unable to get ourselves away from it. When God asks you to do something, ask Him to loosen fear's grip on your life. He will happily help you in unimaginable ways.
Maybe you don't struggle with fear and you, like Ruth, immediately listen and obey. That's a great thing! Make sure you don't get proud of all of the amazing things you've done and forget about God working in it though.
I often find myself afraid of falling short, but how can I fall short when God is holding me up? The things we're afraid of aren't as big when you think about God and His power. It's your time to shine. Be a courageous person like Ruth. Don't be afraid of stepping into the spotlight for a little bit. God will be with you. He'll even cheer you on and celebrate when you're done.
